At the beginning of the week I went on a walk along the Tamar Trails organized by Drawn to the Valley. We walked up to Devon Great Consols, the old Copper and Arsenic Mine, part of the world heritage site. Mostly the ruins of mines round here have sunk into woodland, you are hardly aware of them unless you are looking. But at Great Consols the land is still barren even though the mining is long finished, a huge contrast to the lush woodlands surrounding it. It conjured up film images of post apocalyptic landscapes for me.
